Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
We are seeking a Paediatric Senior House Officer to join our Paediatric Department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. The 2026 training year commences on 19 January.
The combined RMO’s rotate through a shared roster, ensuring coverage across all acute areas, including the Children’s Ward, Special Care Baby Unit, and Delivery Suite. At the start of the rotation a range of training opportunities, such as Newborn Life Support and introduction to acute paediatric care, are offered with Senior House Officers receiving instruction and support from senior staff.
There is an opportunity to sit for the Diploma in Child Health making this an excellent placement for RMOs interested in paediatrics as a career. Additionally, there is a well established pathway for those ready to transition into a Registrar training position. This rotation also provides valuable paediatric experience for those pursuing careers in General Practice, Emergency Medicine, and other specialties.
About the Team / Service / Location
The 5 Paediatric Senior House Officers work as a team with 5 Registrars, a Paediatric Fellow, and 9 Specialist Consultants.
Our department is fast paced and offers substantial exposure to a broad range of paediatric cases. We take pride in our strong reputation for delivering high-quality care, fostering innovation, and prioritising staff development.
