OverviewVolunteer Companion – Supporting People to Medical AppointmentsFor some people, getting to a medical appointment isn't as simple as stepping into a car.

It can be a stressful, tiring, or even lonely experience.

As a volunteer companion, you'll ride with the driver, help with directions, and lend a hand getting passengers in and out of the shuttle.

These trips are more than just appointments — they're a chance for connection.

You might be the only person someone talks to all week, sharing stories, smiles, or just a bit of company.

Your presence can make the journey feel safer, easier, and a little brighter.

It's simple but meaningful mahi : helping people get the care they need while offering support and kindness along the way.

Responsibilities

Provide support to passengers during medical appointment trips, assist with directions, and help passengers in and out of the shuttle.

Offer companionship to help make journeys more comfortable and safe, and support the driver as needed.

Requirements

Good time management and communication skills to keep trips running smoothly and passengers informed.

The ability to maintain confidentiality when handling personal or sensitive information.

Physically able to get in and out of the vehicle regularly and help passengers safely into the vehicle.

A warm, friendly nature, someone who can make passengers feel comfortable and supported during their journey.

No driving experience required—you'll be supporting the driver, not driving yourself.

Patience and empathy for passengers who may need extra reassurance.

Reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude to make the trip as smooth and pleasant as possible.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment

You'll be scheduled for 1 day every fortnight.

You'll need to manage your own schedule for your assigned day.
