About the role
Opihi College is seeking a caring, confident Y7–8 homeroom teacher for a 12-month fixed-term role starting term 1,
You'll teach a broad Y7–8 programme, and help students build the confidence and readiness they need before stepping into secondary learning.
This role would suit a primary teacher ready to step into the upper-middle years, or someone who enjoys working with early adolescents.
You'll support core learning, take on elements of structured literacy or numeracy, and create a calm, settled environment built on strong relationships.

Teach a clear, engaging Y7–8 programme aligned with the NZC
Teach a structured literacy or numeracy class
Build a positive, respectful homeroom culture
Track progress and keep whanau well-informed
Support diverse learners through differentiated strategies
Work collaboratively with pastoral and support teams
Contribute to school events and wider college life
What you'll bring
NZ Teaching Council registration (or ability to obtain)
Strong understanding of the NZ Curriculum – Ideally NZ classroom experience
Warm, organised, relationship-focused teaching style
Confidence managing a mixed-ability class
Clear, professional communicationWillingness to reflect, learn, and contribute to a team
