Pre-Registration Shortened Midwifery Programme

The closing date is 25 November 2025

The two-year Post-registration Midwifery Programme (shortened) is a Full‑time Master's level at Worcester University. It is an innovative, flexible, work‑based course for Registered Adult Nurses who want to become Midwives.

You will receive a fixed‑term contract up to midpoint Band 5 (no enhancements) for the duration of the course, from the Hospital Trust where you will undertake your clinical placement.

This opportunity will be funded by NHS England, including salary (up toAfC mid‑point band‑5), tuition fees £9 250 and placement tariff.

On completion of the course, if successful candidates have met the NMC (2019) Standards for Proficiency for Midwives, they will be eligible to be registered on the midwifery section of the NMC register.

The programme is 50 % theory and 50 % practice based. This course is for NMC Registered adult nurses who want to become NMC Registered Midwives and earn a level 7 qualification.

Designated, flexible online distance learning theory weeks and specific onsite learning and consolidation periods during the programme to enhance learning and skill development as part of a blended learning programme.

Main duties of the job

  • Determine and provide programmes of care and support for women and birthing people which are appropriate to the needs, contexts, culture and choices of the women, birthing people, babies and their families.
  • Identify those who are not achieving as expected and provide support for development, including where appropriate.
  • Provide care in partnership with women and birthing people, based on best evidence and clinical judgement.
  • Involve other practitioners when this will improve health outcomes.
  • Care for and monitor women and birthing people during the puerperium, offering the necessary evidence‑based advice and support on baby and self‑care.
  • Provide seamless care and interventions in partnership with women and birthing people and other care providers during the antenatal period which are appropriate for their assessed needs, context and culture.
  • Promote their continuing health and well‑being and manage risk consistently.
  • Draw on the skills of others to optimise health outcomes and resource use.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • A First degree at 2.2 or above. Consideration may also be given to applicants who do not have a 2.2 BSc (Hons) but do have level 6 or 7 credit awards within the last 5 years and significant clinical experience (leadership and / or managerial responsibility is advantageous).
  • Registration as an Adult Nurse (RNA) on the NMC (UK) Professional Register.
  • Evidence of at least 12 months experience working as an adult nurse on the UK NMC register.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment.
  • Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Worked in a variety of settings, utilising transferable skills.
  • Current knowledge of Midwifery practice.
  • Good standard of written and verbal communication at all times.
  • IT skills.
  • Other

  • Able to travel to HEI to attend programmed theoretical content.
  • Able to work rotational shifts i.e. days / night / weekends / bank holidays.
