We're looking for a Kaitohutohu Matua | Senior Strategic Advisor to join our high-performing Strategy and Performance Function from early January
This position is permanent, full-time and based in our central Wellington office.
About the role
As the Senior Strategic Advisor, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategy and corporate policy, while providing advice on issues of strategic significance to the Council and Executive Leadership team.
A key part of the role involves leading the development of organisational strategy, ensuring alignment with relevant regional and internal strategies, as well as driving the organisation's wider strategic system to ensure the organisational strategy is effectively implemented, monitored and reviewed.
You will also be responsible for the management and delivery of strategic projects from time to time.
Day-to-day collaboration with the Principal Strategic Advisor and the Advisor Strategy and Performance is central to delivering the outputs of the Strategy Business Unit along with supporting the Head of Strategy and Performance and Group Manager Strategy with research, preparation of advice when required.
Skills and experience required
Experience with developing, implementing and evaluating long-term organisational strategy and / or strategic policy.
Experience understanding strategic issues in an organisational and wider context (including key external trends and Government priorities), applying foresight and judgement to identify what is important for the organisation in the medium and long term.
Experience drawing on advanced qualitative and quantitative frameworks, principles, tools and approaches to evaluate complex organisational challenges, including strategic risks and organisational performance.
Intellectual capability to work with multiple complex ideas in parallel as well as being able to deal comfortably with ambiguity.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and concepts into clear, compelling presentations and reports for senior leadership and diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of local government roles, strategic planning processes and strategic context is desirable.
Capability in Te Reo and Te ao Maori would be advantageous.

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $110,081 to $165,122, with a midpoint of $137,601.
Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
