Job SummaryThe Biomedical Engineer at ZOLL Medical is responsible for ensuring the safety, functionality, and performance of our medical devices by applying advanced engineering principles in maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
This role focuses on supporting life-saving technology in critical care environments, assisting healthcare providers by maintaining high-quality standards in device operations and compliance.
The Biomedical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical expertise, customer support, and training, contributing to the overall mission of improving patient outcomes and advancing medical technology solutions.Main ResponsibilitiesConduct Preventative Maintenance and Repairs on all ZOLL devices according to OEM specifications.Perform PM (in-house or field) according to device service manual.Perform Electrical Safety Testing according to AS / NZS 3551 standards.Perform troubleshooting and repair on all ZOLL devices.Arrange repair / replacement devices with ZOLL USLog the device through the online Service Community Portal (SCP)Note the Service Repair (SR) number allocated via the PortalPrepare the device to be shipped to the US once the SR number has been receivedConsolidate the shipment to be sent to the US, typically every few weeks based on numbersLabel / tag each device with information required, providing SR numbers and list of items for US CustomsWhen necessary, send an electronic form to WH clarifying a requirement for a loan unit to be sent to the clientConduct AT on all new replacement devices from the USConduct PM on all repaired devices returning from the USProvide technical support on ZOLL devicesProvide advice on operational and technical enquiries received from internal and external stakeholdersPossibly source help / assistance from the US on technical enquiresAssist Customer Service with client queries which may be either technical or stockTroubleshoot with clients on AEDsConduct testing on ex demo (non-capital) equipmentTroubleshoot with internal staff on returns that have no notificationReview pricing with the Operations Manager for Fire Devices and VentilatorsProvide manuals to enquiring customers and sales repsManage the Out of Box Failure (OBF) process for all devicesIf the device is with the client, send out a loan (register in PANDA), and receive the faulty deviceIf device was OBF in the WH, receive an SO number, log in the SR number, and ship to the USUpdate the Returns RegisterCustomer Service / AdministrationInitiate customer communication re updates on PM or repairsProvide customer with SR, Invoice (non-cash clients), and request to return loan item(s) if suppliedArrange pick up if devices are under warranty and requiring PM or RepairsUpdate Service Returns Register for all devicesGenerate Service Quotation including parts and serviceConfirm parts required with updated price listReceive PO for service (via Customer Service) to create a customer fileCorrespond with customers to identify / follow up with the repair quoteOnce PM or Repair complete, enter PO in ORACLE, generate pick slip for WH to shipArrange freight / pick up when necessaryRespond to Customer requests for AT reportsEmail correspondence with the US on returns (tracking)Comply and maintain ISO Standard requirements, OHSArrange annual calibration for testing equipment at ZOLL AustraliaMaintain the spreadsheetFile the calibration certificatesDecontamination on all incoming devices for PM and RepairsMaintain and update SOP and WI proceduresConduct Onsite Biomedical Engineer TrainingFacilitate BME training onsite following customer requestsTraining to primarily consist of PM and basic repairs for X and R series devicesQualificationsBachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
A master's degree is a plus.Proven experience in biomedical engineering or a related field, with a focus on medical devices, healthcare systems, or clinical environments.Skills And CompetenciesTechnical Proficiency : Strong understanding of biomedical engineering principles, medical device technology, and applicable regulatory standards.Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair medical equipment, with a methodical approach to problem-solving.Attention To Detail - High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in both engineering tasks and documentation.Communication Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with healthcare professionals, explain technical issues, and document procedures clearly.Project Management - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.Interpersonal Skills - Strong collaboration skills to work effectively in a team setting with other engineers, clinical staff, and external vendors.Regulatory And Compliance Knowledge - Familiarity with healthcare regulations, safety protocols, and quality assurance standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
Additional RequirementsAbility to work in fast-paced clinical environments and adapt to changing priorities.Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools, and other engineering software is a plus.Willingness to continue professional development and stay updated on new technologies and industry trends.QA and SafetyCommitment to the quality, environment, health, and safety and proactively reporting any risks and issues to your manager or Supervisor.
