Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Guidance counsellor

English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Māori, The arts

Wainuiomata High School is looking for an experienced and dedicated Guidance Counsellor to deliver essential counselling services to our students, whānau, and staff. This is a full-time position with flexibility available to accommodate the needs of the successful candidate.

About you

Registration with New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) or other relevant professional body.

Have a deep knowledge and commitment to working within their registered body’s Code of Ethics and fulfil the necessary requirements for supervision and your annual practicing certificate.

Can easily develop relationships with rangatahi and their whānau, and feel comfortable interacting with whānau as required.

Have a knowledge of local external agencies.

Feel comfortable working to provide crisis intervention support.

Confident in your ability to facilitate group work with students as required

Can be a part of a team providing mental health / wellbeing education and support to staff.

This is a permanent full time position starting in Term 1, 2026. Salary is based on the Secondary Teachers\' Collective Agreement or by individual employment agreement.
