What you'll do
As Commercial Finance Manager, you will connect financial strategy with operational execution.
You will :
Partner closely with business leaders to analyse, interpret, and report on financial performance to enable informed decision-making across all levels.
Support the CEO and Group CFO with commercial and financial guidance, including reviewing accounts and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Lead the business planning process with senior executives, setting commercially viable targets and managing budgets.
Deliver comprehensive business analytics by presenting clear recommendations to support new initiatives, store openings, promotions, and overall profitability.
Oversee all aspects of financial management including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow projections, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Collaborate with property managers to ensure accurate accounting for rents, property deals, and related expenditures.
Liaise with payroll teams to ensure compliance with wage regulations while controlling wage spend across retail operations.
Manage relationships with external auditors during annual audits and ensure statutory obligations are met in line with tax requirements and company law.
Develop, maintain, and implement internal controls, finance policies, and reporting systems tailored for a fast-paced retail environment.
Empower and nurture direct reports through regular feedback sessions, training initiatives, performance reviews, and fostering an inclusive team culture.
What you bring
To excel in this role you should have extensive experience from senior finance roles within the retail industry, ideally in fast-moving environments.
Requirements include multi-currency experience and a strong grasp of New Zealand corporate finance regulations.
You will possess advanced technical skills in spreadsheets and accounting systems, with a proven ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and build relationships across diverse teams.
A commitment to continuous learning and a flexible mindset is essential.
Full membership of NZICA as a Chartered Accountant or equivalent qualification is essential.
Demonstrated success in a senior finance position within the retail sector for at least five years.
Experience in high-volume retail environments with broad exposure to business operations (ten+ years desirable).
Proven capability in multi-currency environments with extensive FX experience.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel) and familiarity with accounting software.
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills to interpret data and make sound recommendations.
Understanding of New Zealand statutory requirements including tax, employment, health & safety, privacy, and NZX listing rules.
Strong communication skills to present results to technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborative approach with coaching and mentoring to empower colleagues.
