About the IT Manager
As a key pillar of the Digital Leadership Team reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the IT Manager is responsible for maintaining systems and infrastructure to support the delivery of Council services to the Kapiti Community.
Leading a team spanning Application Support, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering and Service Desk Analysis, you will be confident rolling your sleeves up and being hands on with technology and tools while leading and maintaining service excellence in engagement with the wider business at all times.
As the ideal candidate for this role, you will be confident in your ability to manage and lead technical resources, including HR and Performance management.
You will combine this with technical knowledge across Infrastructure, Networking, Systems, Operational Security (SIEM) and Application Support.

Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of up to 7 direct and 3 indirect reports, balancing leadership with hands-on technical support.
Oversee IT operations and projects (50 : 50 split), ensuring delivery of initiatives like Windows 11 rollout, firewall upgrades, and SCADA network separation.
Maintain and improve infrastructure, networks, and security practices, including Azure / M365 environments and SIEM monitoring.
Drive compliance, risk management, and operational alignment with security frameworks.
Foster a high-performing, collaborative culture through mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
Champion continuous improvement, challenging the status quo to enhance service levels and customer experience.
Skills and Experience Required
Proven leadership or management approach with experience guiding technical teams in dynamic environments.
Strong technical background in IT infrastructure, networks, systems, and security operations.
Familiarity with Microsoft technologies, cloud-based service desk tools, and operational security practices.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong organisational and time management skills, with resilience under pressure and ability to manage shifting priorities.
Experience in project coordination or delivery, ensuring alignment with budgets, timelines, and organisational goals.

Remuneration
The salary range for this position is $118,000 to $139,000, with a midpoint of $128,500.
Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
