About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced andmotivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Complex Clinical CareService at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a pivotal rolein promoting excellence in gerontology and advancing nursing practice acrossthe organisation. You’ll work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams toensure safe, high-quality, patient-centred care, and provide expert clinicalleadership to improve outcomes for our elderly population.

You will act as a clinician, educator, consultant,researcher, and change agent—using your advanced nursing expertise to supportstaff, patients, and whānau, while driving innovation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence

  • Provideadvanced clinical expertise and leadership in the care of our elderlypatients.
  • Undertakecomprehensive health assessments and prescribe evidence-basedinterventions.
  • Rolemodel high-quality, culturally safe nursing practice in alignment with TeTiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • Guideand mentor other nurses to build clinical capability within the team.
  • Collaboratewith patients, families / whānau, and other health professionals to achieveoptimal health outcomes.

Leadership & Service Improvement

  • Leadquality improvement initiatives and evidence-based changes to clinicalpractice.
  • Contributeto clinical governance, audit, and research activities within the service.
  • Provideconsultation and guidance to health professionals within the service andacross the organisation.
  • Supporta culture of professional growth, continuous learning, and accountability.
  • Collaboratewith the Professional Development Unit and tertiary education providers todevelop training opportunities.
  • Supportstaff in achieving PDRP and professional development goals.
  • Actas a clinical resource for staff, patients, and families.

    • Care Coordination & Case Management

  • Coordinatecare for patients with complex needs across hospital and communitysettings.
  • Providea central point of contact for patients and health professionals.
  • Facilitatecontinuity of care through collaborative relationships across primary andsecondary services.

    • Research & Quality

  • Participatein and lead research or service improvement projects.
  • Integrateclinical evidence into nursing practice and promote researchdissemination.
  • Monitorand evaluate patient outcomes to support evidence-based care improvements.

    • About You

    To succeed in this role, you will be an advanced,forward-thinking nursing professional who demonstrates clinical credibility,strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to improving patient outcomesthrough education and best practice.

  • CurrentNursing Council of New Zealand practising certificate.
  • Minimumof 5 years’ experience in gerontology care or a related senior nursingrole.
  • Postgraduatequalification (or working towards) in a relevant clinical specialty.
  • Advancednursing skills at Proficient or Expert PDRP level.
  • Demonstratedleadership, education, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills.
  • Abilityto work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Computerliteracy and sound organisational ability.
  • Workingtowards or holds a Master’s in Clinical Nursing.
  • RNPrescriber endorsement (or working towards).
  • Demonstratedexperience in clinical research or publication.
  • Provenexperience developing nursing standards and quality improvementinitiatives.
