Overview

Community Support Worker - Residential – Permanent Reliever, West Auckland.

Location : Massey, West Auckland.

Hours : 32 hours per week.

Pay : $

  • per hour.

Spectrum Care provides support for adults with intellectual and / or physical disabilities to live great lives.

Cartmel house has 6 female residents aged 40s–70s with a mix of intellectual and physical disabilities.

Residents require assistance with personal cares including showering, dressing and female hygiene, as well as cooking and shopping.

One-to-one supervision is required when out in the community for their activities.

They enjoy puzzles, arts and crafts, watching TV and listening to music, and engage in activities in the community such as day centres, Shake, Rattle and Roll classes, cinema, cafes, parks and beaches.

Responsibilities

Provide personal care support (showering, dressing, hygiene) and daily living assistance.

Support residents with cooking, shopping and everyday tasks.

Deliver one-to-one supervision in community activities and outings.

Assist residents with activities they enjoy (puzzles, arts and crafts, TV, music).

Support residents to participate in community activities (day centres, cinema, cafes, walks).

Skills & Experience

Empathy for the challenges of building an ordinary life while living with a disability.

Energy to keep up with residents who are often on the go.

Ability to remain calm and reassuring in all situations.

Resilience to help residents maintain boundaries for safety.

Ability to explain and negotiate effectively.

Clear, supportive communication with family, colleagues and residents.

Willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills.

Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English.

The ideal candidate will have

Interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification; we can support you to achieve this while you work.

Experience supporting people with disabilities, mental health issues, or challenging behaviours is desirable but not necessary.

Reliability, commitment and passion for working with people.

Full New Zealand driver's licence.

Ability to pass a NZ police check.

Ability to use a computer effectively (Word, Internet, email).

INZ Requirements for Non-Residents

Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or

A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — at least level 4 for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
