Job description

Te Puni Kokiri leads policy advice to the Government on Maori development, and Iwi and Maori relations with the Crown.

To do this effectively we must position ourselves to elevate our monitoring and mentoring responsibilities and emphasise our role in holding other agencies to account for delivery of public services to, for and with Maori.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a cohort of Senior Advisors, delivering high-impact services across Ministerial servicing, Official Information Act (OIA) responses, and governance services portfolios.

As a Senior Advisor, you will provide Te Puni Kokiri with strategic, end-to-end advice that supports our leadership, accountability, and engagement with Ministers.

You will enjoy a variety of work, including :

Supporting the delivery of high-quality Ministerial advice, including drafting and reviewing aide-mémoires, briefings, Written Parliamentary Questions, and the weekly Ministerial report.

Advising on, and drafting responses to, Official Information Act requests, and managing the end-to-end process in compliance with the Act.

Providing governance advice and secretariat support to internal committees and working groups, including preparing agendas, minutes and follow-up actions.

Partnering with Puni to understand their priorities and support the delivery of high-quality and timely advice to the Minister and their office.

Leading and contributing to the team's continuous improvement initiatives.

The likely appointment range is $104,317 – $115,907 based on skills and experience.

Ko wai koe | About You

You are a confident, proactive Senior Advisor with a strong track record in public sector Ministerial and governance services.

You thrive in fast-paced environments and are motivated to deliver high-impact advisory services.

You will bring :

Public Sector Expertise – At least 3 years of experience in public sector advisory roles, with deep knowledge of the machinery of government, governance frameworks and legislative compliance.

Ministerial Servicing Excellence – Proven ability to write and review Ministerial documents, and advise on and draft OIA responses.

Strategic Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate with clarity and confidence, tailor advice for senior audiences, and influence effectively across leadership and Ministerial environments.

Relationship Building – A team player who has a collaborative approach and ability to build strong, trusted relationships with the team, across Puni teams and agencies.

Continuous Improvement – A mindset for innovation and service improvement, and a commitment to uplifting capability across the Ministry.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi – Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and comfort working in te ao Maori environments.

Tertiary qualifications in law, public policy, governance or a related field are desirable.
