Chief Finance Officer
The Diocese is looking to recruit a Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to lead a passionate and committed team and be a key strategic partner in shaping the future of the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch. The Diocese is at an exciting time as it strengthens its future in the region, achieving the vision through :
- The creation of the cathedral precinct with construction of the new cathedral and other ancillary buildings
- A shift in focus from ‘maintenance to Mission’ through evangelisation
- Supporting the continued development of the Diocesan Parishes.
About The Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CFO serves as a strategic partner, accountable for the CDC’s financial and IT performance. The primary responsibility of the role is to safeguard and improve the financial position and performance of the Diocese, enabling the achievement of its pastoral and property objectives. Furthermore, the CFO drives risk management and ensures an excellent standard of reporting.
The role has responsibility for :
Leadership and management of the Diocesan Finance team to support them to deliver outstanding customer service both internally and externally.Provide strategic financial advice regarding diocese asset health, financial growth, property development and the management of financial risks.Increase efficiencies through automation and application of AI and other emerging technologies.Maintain accountability for all diocese financial reporting, insurance and compliance with statutory and audit regulations.Work collaboratively with the finance council and other CDC board committees.Work collaboratively with the finance council and other CDC board committees.This role also reports to :

BCom in Accounting or Finance and membership of an appropriate associated professional body, CA / CPA, and evidence of ongoing learningSign experience as a CFO or Director of Finance with both technical and management proficiency in operations of large and complex property projectsDemonstrated experience leading the business case assessment and implementation of financial IT systems and proceduresDemonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate, well‑organised written and financial reports and to communicate verbally in an effective and concise mannerAbility to deal with ambiguity and maintain flexibility in an environment with frequently changing prioritiesA commitment to the vision, mission and values of the Roman Catholic ChurchExperience in the not-for-profit or public sector would be an advantageBenefits
