About the Role
The Senior Security Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing the organisation's Cyber Security initiatives. This position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security solutions aimed at reducing cyber risks across all areas of the business. The role requires delivering expert cyber insights, supporting the deployment of cutting-edge security tools, and continuously enhancing the organisation's security posture. Collaborating closely with teams such as Vulnerability Management, SOC, CSIRT, GRC, and Security Architecture, the Senior Security Engineer will ensure that all security efforts align with strategic objectives and bolster overall system resilience. This position is integral to maintaining and strengthening the security of Te Whatu Ora's infrastructure, data, and assets through proactive risk management and innovative security practices.
About the Team
The Senior Security Engineer is part of the Cyber Security team, reporting to the National Cyber Threat Response and Engineering Manager within Health New Zealand's wider Digital Services function. The Cyber Security function within Health NZ is a national capability that ensures the protection of critical health systems, data, and services. Cyber security has established a robust security function that operates at scale across all of Health New Zealand, providing essential protection against cyber threats. A stable, consistent approach to cybersecurity is essential to safeguarding patient safety, maintaining public trust, and ensuring the continuity of vital healthcare operations.
About you
You are a cyber security professional with strong analytical and technical skills, capable of assessing and interpreting complex security data to identify threats and vulnerabilities. You have experience working with on-premises, SaaS, and cloud environments and can communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Additionally, the following skills and experience will contribute to your success in this role.
Minimum 5 years' experience in Cyber Security Engineering and with demonstrated progression, showcasing growth in responsibilities and expertise.
Expertise in securing cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or GCP.
Deep knowledge of Azure Cloud, Sentinel, endpoint protection, SIEM tools, and cloud security solutions.
Strong knowledge of cyber security practices in a hybrid environment of on-premises, SaaS, and cloud services.
