Child and Family Safety Service Team Leader

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern – Otago region

  • Permanent, part-time role (0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week)
  • Salary range $122,570 - $127,720 per annum and KiwiSaver

About the role

Step into a leadership position where you can drive meaningful change and strengthen the health sector's response to family violence across Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern. In this pivotal role, you'll lead the Child and Family Safety Service team to deliver the Ministry of Health's Violence Intervention Programme (VIP), champion equity, and foster safe, collaborative pathways of care.

In this role, you will :

  • lead the implementation and quality delivery of the VIP across Southern, ensuring alignment with national standards and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations
  • build an engaged, high-performing team through strong leadership, coaching, and workforce development
  • strengthen partnerships with community agencies, primary care, and internal stakeholders to enhance child and family safety
  • oversee planning, evaluation, reporting, and improvement activities to ensure programmes are effective, equitable and responsive
  • support staff capability through training, supervision, and guidance in family violence identification and intervention.
  • About you

    You'll bring a strong mix of leadership, clinical insight, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for whānau affected by family violence. Your experience enables you to navigate complexity, build trust, and inspire others to deliver safe, equitable and effective care.

    To succeed in this role, you will have :

  • a relevant tertiary qualification (nursing, allied health or equivalent) and proven experience leading teams
  • a background in family violence-related work, with strong coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills
  • excellent communication, report writing and relationship-building abilities across diverse teams and agencies
  • a sound understanding of key legislation, national guidelines and systems relating to family violence, child protection and privacy
  • experience in financial planning, HR processes, and managing multiple programmes or projects.
  • You will also be able to :

  • inspire, motivate and influence others to create positive change
  • work flexibly and independently while leading a high-performing team
  • communicate clearly, think innovatively and approach challenges with a systems lens
  • apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi meaningfully, supporting equity for Māori and culturally grounded approaches to care
  • build strong relationships across the health system and community, modelling integrity, professionalism and self-awareness.
