About the role

This is arare opportunity to join ourPalliative Care team as aConsultant / Senior Medical Officer - Palliative Care Physician,providing cover during a long leave period.

You will be workingprimarily at Wellington Regional Hospital with outreach to Kenepuru Hospital, and will provide specialist medical care to patients and whānauwith complex palliative needs. The role combines direct clinical care, expertsymptom management, consultation across specialties, and collaborative practicewith nursing, allied health, and community partners.

You'llmanage a varied inpatient caseload, provide senior medical advice to cliniciansacross the hospital, support complex clinical decision-making, and work closelywith hospice and primary care teams to ensure seamless transitions for patientsbetween care settings.

About the Team / Service / Location

TheHospital Palliative Care Service is a highly skilled multidisciplinary teambased at Wellington Regional Hospital, with outreach to Kenepuru Hospital. Theteam consists of SMOs, CNSs, RMO and NP colleagues. We work closely withhospital teams, primary care, community providers, and hospices to ensureequitable, patient-centred palliative care. Our service sees over 1000 newpatients each year, spanning both malignant and non‑malignant conditions.

Capital, CoastandHutt Valleydistrict is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full‑time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals 'WellingtonRegional Hospital in Newtown,Hutt ValleyHospital and Kenepuru Hospital inPorirua' as well as theKāpitiHealth Centre at Paraparaumu.

• Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Palliative Medicine)with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
• FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
• Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
• Broad experience in hospital and / or hospice-based palliative care
