Overview

Napier City Council is seeking a Team Leader Treatment to oversee water and wastewater treatment operations and trade waste services.

The role ensures safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable water services for the community, with a focus on leadership, safety, and continuous improvement in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day operations of water and wastewater treatment plants and trade waste services.

Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and legislative standards, and manage responses to incidents.

Supervise and develop a skilled team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Work closely with maintenance and asset teams to plan upgrades, renewals, and commissioning of new infrastructure.

Build strong relationships with regulators, stakeholders, and industry partners to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Contribute to Napier City Council's long-term vision for nationally consistent, future-focused water services.

About You

9+ years' experience in water / wastewater treatment operations or environmental compliance.

National Diploma Level 6 in Water / Wastewater Treatment (or equivalent qualification).

Experienced leader with a track record of managing technical and operational staff.

Strong knowledge of water quality standards, trade waste regulation, and environmental compliance.

Excellent planning, coordination, and communication skills.

Confident with SCADA systems, plant operations, and treatment technologies.

Committed to best practice in health, safety, and continuous learning.

Experience with regulatory reporting and audits is an advantage.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

You will be based in Napier.

The annual salary package for this role is $105,700-$124,300 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
