A rare and exciting leadership opportunity is now available at Bette Christie Kindergarten. We’re looking for a dynamic, thoughtful head teacher who upholds our values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, hauora, and ako, creating a warm, inclusive learning environment where tamariki and kaiako flourish.

About the role

As head teacher, you’ll provide professional leadership and guidance to the teaching team, ensuring high-quality education through effective curriculum implementation in line with licensing criteria and Napier Kindergarten Association policies. This role calls for a leader with passion, energy, and drive, someone who values strong relationships with tamariki, kaiako, whānau, and the wider community, and champions a learning culture built on respect, collaboration, and wellbeing.

About you

You’re a collaborative, relationship-focused leader who communicates openly and values the unique strengths each kaiako brings. You lead with clarity, kindness, and purpose, supporting the growth of others while modelling reflective, high-quality practice. Your strong pedagogical knowledge allows you to guide effective teaching, lead inquiry and professional learning, and cultivate an inspiring environment for all.

What you’ll bring

• Registered, qualified teacher status
• Proven leadership experience, or a strong readiness to step into a head teacher role
• A deep commitment to Te Whāriki and high-quality, culturally responsive teaching
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build genuine partnerships with whānau and community
• Strong ECE compliance knowledge and sound organisational capability
• Confidence teaching and supporting tamariki with diverse learning and behaviour needs
• The ability to design learning programmes that reflect each child’s strengths, interests, identity, and culture
• A commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga in everyday practice.
