Job Description
We have a rare opportunity to join our Otepoti Dunedin Terminal as a Kaitaki Tuarua – Tumu Herenga Waka Assistant Terminal Manager.
As a Kaitaki Tuarua – Tumu Herenga Waka Assistant Terminal Manager, you'll guide work at the terminal working closely with and providing back up to the Kaitaki Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Manager.
This role has a range of responsibilities including executing the operational activities within the terminal and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the safe and reliable operations of the terminal.
We have a need for technical capability in our Terminal and will be looking for applicants with mechanical and maintenance experience to diagnose and conduct minor tasks and inspections.
Typical tasks might include permitting contractors, recording stock movements, conducting maintenance checks, carrying out safety and wellbeing task observations, bulk ship receipts into storage tanks, fuel sampling, and more – a truly varied and interesting role.
You will have the opportunity to
Help supervise, coordinate and complete maintenance activities and record completed tasks in Z's maintenance system.
Work in a close-knit team at the Terminal carrying out tasks such as receiving petroleum products from ships into our bulk tanks, tank gauging, product sampling & testing, product transfers, compliance checks and forklift operations.
Learn and comply with Safety and Wellbeing policies, standards and procedures to ensure the Terminal is run in a safe and reliable way.
Train to become certified in 'Shore Officer' and 'Permit to Work' responsibilities.
Provide administrative support with the day-to-day running of the Terminal.
This includes stock management, purchasing activities and ad-hoc other administrative tasks.
Participate and learn from regular training and assist with providing training.
Support and deputise for the Kaitaki Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Manager and provide relief cover for other staff.
Qualifications
Ideally knowledge of terminal operations and the ability to work in a hands on and practical way, or other relevant experience.
Experience in mechanical or maintenance type activities.
High level of communication and interpersonal skills to ensure positive relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
The ability to lead, mentor and coach team member to improve performance and maintain standards.
Flexibility to work outside in all weather conditions and a range of hours as well as be on call when required.
Experience and the knowledge of managing a hazardous environment with a commitment to safety.
Capable of passing regular medicals and drug and alcohol tests.
The ability to embrace change and bring your team on the journey.

The starting salary range for this role is $73,500 to $86,450 per annum, plus 10% STI based on company and individual performance, a 5% KiwiSaver employer contribution, health insurance through Southern Cross and overtime rates for working outside of normal hours is also included.
You will have regular remuneration reviews to progress through the full salary range, up to $99,400 for this role during your time at Z.
