With over 90 Op Shops across New Zealand, we give second‑hand goods a new life and every purchase helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need.

Due to the growth of our Taupo store we are looking for a strong, hands on retail assistant to support the store. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to be involved in building something from the ground up, establishing a high‑performing, community focused store that supports SPCA’s mission to care for animals in need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity at our Taupo Op Shop for a :

  • Op Shop Assistant
  • Tuesday – Friday 9 : 00am-2 : 00pm (18 hours per week) as well as flexibility to cover leave and busy periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working alongside the store manager to supoort daily shop operations.
  • Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well‑stocked throughout the day.
  • Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.
  • Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end‑of‑day reconciliation.
  • Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager’s absence.
  • Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
  • Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

    ABOUT YOU

    You’re a team player with a passion for great service and a knack for retail. Whether it’s pricing donated goods, helping customers, or supporting volunteers, you enjoy pitching in wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.

    Skills & Experience

  • Retail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).
  • Confident working sole charge and making operational decisions when required.
  • Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a team and independently.
  • Physically fit and able to lift / move stock as required.
