Tuakiri | Identity

Tuakiri is the home of Christchurch City Libraries' heritage collections. It's where the stories of our ancestors, our city and region are preserved, explored, and shared. From the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre to Ngā Pounamu Māori and Pasifika Collections, Tuakiri is a taonga for our community—and we're looking for someone passionate to help us care for and grow it.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

  • Supporting customers with family history research—both in person and remotely.
  • Developing and delivering engaging programmes that assist customers to discover their family history and promote our heritage collections.
  • Collaborating with a passionate team to provide exceptional service and experiences.
  • Caring for the Tuakiri collection to ensure it remains a vibrant, accessible resource for all.
  • A strong understanding of family history and heritage resources.
  • Excellent research skills and a passion for connecting people with their stories.
  • Cultural responsiveness and a commitment to biculturalism and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A relevant Level 5 qualification and at least4 years of library experience (a qualification in family history or genealogy is a bonus!).

  • Tuesday 9.30am - 6.00pm (7.5 hours)
  • Wednesday 9.00am - 5.30pm (7.5 hours)
  • Thursday 12.15pm - 8.15pm (7.5 hours)
  • Friday 9.30am - 6.00pm (7.5 hours)
  • Saturday 9.15 - 5.15 (7.5 hours)
  • Location

    This position is primarily based at Tūranga, 60 Cathedral Square, Christchurch

    Salary

    The salary band for this position goes from $35.77 to $39.74 per hour. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
