Pinpoint is an independent testing laboratory established in 2020 by New Zealand’s leading Kiwifruit Post‑Harvest company, EastPack, to provide laboratory testing services to customers across the Bay of Plenty region. The Te Puke based laboratory offers an accurate and efficient service to its customers to ensure they can make informed decisions for their businesses.
We are looking for Laboratory Technicians to join our seasonal team for the 2026 kiwifruit season, starting early January. If you thrive in a vibrant team environment, a Laboratory Technician role may be right for you!
During January and February, Pinpoint Labs conducts pest monitoring as part of the Kiwigreen program. This involves checking for pests, with a particular focus on identifying scale by examining leaf samples under a microscope.
From mid‑late February until approximately May, Pinpoint Labs conducts testing on kiwifruit samples across six testing types, the results of which determine the maturity of the fruit.
To be a successful Pinpoint Lab Technician, lab experience isn’t essential, but you will need good computer literacy and numeracy skills, strong attention to detail, and a positive, collaborative attitude.
This role typically starts mid‑morning, with shift lengths depending on sample volumes and testing demands. Night shifts are also available from mid‑late February.
The Laboratory Technician role includes being responsible for :
Testing of leaf and / or kiwifruit samples
Ensuring all sample processing follows best practice, including adherence to health, safety, quality and hygiene protocols
Understanding the process for test types, testing results and relaying any concerns to the team leader in a timely manner
Cleaning of lab area and equipment
Ensuring all samples are processed in the appropriate timeframes
Identifying samples that are non‑conforming to customer requirements
To be successful in this role, you will also ideally need :
An understanding of the kiwifruit industry would be beneficial
Understanding of the importance of a strong health and safety culture
Excellent time managementand attention to detail
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends when required
Ability to follow instructions, work independently and operate efficiently
Ability to lift loads of kiwifruit samples weighing up to 15kg safely, following H&S standards
