• About the role
• Registrars receive excellent support and opportunities for both technical surgical skills and management of a very broad range of surgical pathology
• Opportunity to be part of a close-knit team of three urology consultants. The team works closely with the General Surgical Department (sn additional seven consultants), and after hours call covers both specialties
• This is an opportunity for a 6-12-month urology attachment for successful applicants interested in pursuing or experiencing this field. There is also the opportunity to work across a range of surgical specialties within general surgery, such as breast, colorectal, bariatric, and benign UGI
• In the Urology Department, there will be exposure to a full spectrum of urological surgeries and pathologies, and the opportunity to gain or improve skills in both acute and elective urological procedures. As well as operating skills, there are outpatient clinics including clinic procedures such as cystoscopy and biopsies, and ward management of urological inpatients
• When covering for general surgery, there is one registrar on call with a dedicated on call SMO lending itself to a supportive structured learning environment in acute care. There is also a very broad and stimulating elective caseload. Our registrars are well supported in attending courses relevant to their career goals
• The department is also very supportive of those wishing to pursue surgical training and will support applications to this end
• There is 24 / 7 access to the library, weekly department and dedicated Registrar teaching, journal clubs, regular RMO forums, and exposure to a range of presentations to the hospital - all of which will equip you with a broad skill base to serve you well as you progress in your careerThis role belongs to the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement.

• Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at
