Overview

Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8); kura tuatahi, Certificated teacher.

English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Maori, The arts.

Due to a reorganisation of roles within our school, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a new kaiako to join our Kahikatea Team, teaching a Y5 and 6 class in a single cell classroom.

Our well resourced school is situated in Central Lower Hutt and is supported by an amazing community.

We are searching for a positive, enthusiastic teacher with New Zealand Curriculum knowledge and outstanding teaching practice who is focused on childrenriends learning and achievement.

We have been using a structured literacy approach for several years now so experience in this area would be an advantage, as would confidence in Te Reo and Tikanga Maori.

Skills in connecting with our community, kaiako and tamariki are essential.

The successful applicant will be well supported by the experienced and collaborative team around them and have plenty of opportunities to grow as we undertake professional development associated with the curriculum refresh in 2026.

Responsibilities

Teach a Y5 and 6 class in a single cell classroom.

Be part of the Kahikatea Team and contribute to a collaborative learning environment.

Apply knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum to planning and delivery.

Leverage experience with structured literacy; support literacy development.

Demonstrate confidence in Te Reo and Tikanga Maori and connect with the school community, kaiako and tamariki.

Engage in professional development related to the curriculum refresh in 2026.

Qualifications & Skills

Positive, enthusiastic teaching approach with NZ Curriculum knowledge.

Experience or openness to structured literacy approaches.

Confidence in Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori.

Strong ability to connect with students, families and staff.
