Catholic Prison Chaplains – Auckland Prison & Auckland South Corrections Facility
The Catholic Diocese of Auckland are seeking to employ two suitably qualified persons to work as members of the Tira Tuhaha Prison Chaplaincy Aotearoa Chaplaincy Team, which delivers Ecumenical Chaplaincy services to men in prison at Auckland Prison (Paremoremo) and Auckland South Corrections Facility.
The positions are permanent part-time positions,
24 hours at Auckland Prison
and
20 hours per week at Auckland South Corrections Facility
– days to be determined but with the expectation of some Sundays per month for Sunday Services.
The Catholic Prison Chaplaincy service is a separate but integrated ministry which promotes and shares the Gospel message, provides for the celebration of the Sacraments, and provides pastoral care, counsel and support.
You will have the opportunity to journey with prisoners as they encounter the challenges of prison life and separation from loved ones and whanau.
The roles require a special combination of experience, skill, formation, and personal qualities.
We need people who have a deep faith, pastoral experience and who have some knowledge of te reo and tikanga Maori.
You must be confident in providing group and individual services, pastoral support, as well as leading and coordinating volunteers.
Experience working with mental health issues would be advantageous.
Significant ministry and pastoral counselling experience is required for the role, as is an appropriate level of mental and physical agility.
It is important that you can work constructively as part of the chaplaincy and site management team and that you can be adaptable and flexible in your role.
You will preferably either have a formal theological qualification or have made significant progress towards one.
Good IT aptitude is essential.
Office 365 is the key platform – therefore some knowledge of SharePoint would be helpful.
Training and support are available for the right candidates.
Applicants should note that the successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment screening required by the Diocese and the Department of Corrections.
