We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the role
The Health Gain Development team is looking for an Engagement Manager to oversee engagement strategies, planning, and implementation across various research projects within the Māori Health Pipeline research team. The role includes leading the engagement strategy, managing budgets, building relationships with stakeholders, and leading a diverse engagement team.
The work involves collaborating with researchers, health professionals and communities to improve health outcomes, particularly addressing health inequities. Knowledge of Māori health and culture is important, as the role involves engaging with Māori communities and supporting Māori health initiatives.
About you
You will be an experienced engagement and communications professional, with experience in managing teams of people, particularly working within health contexts, and ideally a background in equity. You'll be comfortable participating in strategic planning activities with partner teams, agencies, providers, researchers, and leading equity-driven discussions about how to best see positive change in health service design.
Confidence in communicating with Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori is important as you will lead the development of engagement materials that are appropriate for the target participants of our research programmes. The position requires excellent communication skills, project management ability, and experience working with diverse groups. The role will see you working at national, regional, and local levels, so being able to build strong relationships and work collaboratively is important.
