Greater Wellington Regional Council – Wellington Central, North Island

We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our high performing Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink) team. This two-year fixed term, full-time role is based in our central Wellington office.

About the role :

As Senior Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of projects for the programme of works that will be undertaken to support the delivery of the Greater Wellington component of Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink), ensuring that it is coordinated with our partners. This is a senior role in Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink), working as part of a team, with good collaboration skills and a sound knowledge of implementing major flood protection infrastructure.

You'll work closely with Programme and Interface Leads, the Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (Riverlink) Advisor, and Engineers to ensure the successful delivery of the Greater Wellington programme, while also driving the broader outcomes and partner benefits of the programme. You'll collaborate closely with the Greater Wellington team, project partners and the wider Council to achieve these shared programme goals. You will also support the Manager Projects and Programmes and the Director Delivery Group as required.

Skills and experience required :

  • You will have led the delivery of projects, with the ability to plan for and deliver success.
  • A Project Management or Engineering qualification would be an advantage.
  • Preferable experience includes.

Experience in engineering construction and management of civil engineering, building contractors and contracts.

  • Project management qualification and competency with Project Management software.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in risk management and mitigation particularly in relation to project and people issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience developing work plans and budgets, scheduling, programme coordination and meeting delivery targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the work of others and work well as part of a team.
  • Anticipate potential problems, risks, then take actions to mitigate setbacks and risks.
  • Exceptional organisational and planning skills with the ability to effectively prioritise workload across multiple activities.
  • Strong understanding of financial budgeting and reporting, and operational planning.
  • Practical understanding of process design, documentation, and continuous quality improvement disciplines.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand construction contracts (e.g. NZS 3910), procurement processes, and commercial practices to ensure fair, transparent, and value-for-money outcomes.
  • Capability in te ao Māori in line with Greater Wellington's Māori Capability Framework.

    The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $119,206 to $178,809, with a midpoint of $149,007. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
