About the Role

As Manager Capital Planning for the Central Region, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of health infrastructure. You'll be leading the development and management of regional capital plans, ensuring alignment with national investment strategies and health priorities. Working closely with both national and regional teams, including the Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG), delivery partners and key stakeholders to optimise capital planning, budgeting, and delivery processes.

This is an opportunity to influence strategic investment decisions, improve asset lifecycle management, and contribute to a health system that delivers better outcomes for communities. You'll be the go-to expert for capital planning, reviewing and supporting Business Cases in development, providing insights and advice that drive efficiency, innovation, and sustainability across the region.

About the Team / Service / Location

The IIG Central team are focused on delivering high impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system within region and with alignment across the motu.

Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, the team understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.

About you

You're a strategic leader who thrives in complexity and understands the pivotal role capital planning plays in shaping a health system that delivers better outcomes for communities across our region. You will bringstrong financial acumen and a strong sense of purpose, ensuring every investment decision supports sustainability, equity, and innovation.

You'll bring a balance of technical expertise and people leadership, able to influence at all levels and set strategic direction that aligns with regional priorities. You will foster a culture of trust, collaboration and continuous improvement ensuring our capital planning approach strengthens integration across hospital campuses and health services.

You are confident navigating ambiguity and driving change, balancing immediate operational needs with long‑term system transformation. Most importantly, you care. You actively contribute to a positive team environment, consistently embodying the values of Health NZ in your work. You understand that how you lead is just as important as what you deliver and you take pride in fostering a collaborative, inclusive and purpose-driven workplace.

You will bring :

  • A relevant degree in Finance or Business, with post‑graduate qualifications (e.g., MBA) preferred.
  • 7+ years' experience in finance, investment, or portfolio management, ideally with a focus on infrastructure and long‑term assets.
  • Proven success in strategically managing infrastructure projects through to business case approval in a commercial environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong cultural competence, and experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in action.
  • Familiarity with asset management best practice and the Better Business Case model (desired).
