Fixed Term Laboratory Technician (Seasonal) - Awahuri

Join the Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), a farmer‑owned co‑operative that has supported herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy sector for more than 115 years. This role offers the opportunity to work at the LIC European Centre in rural Awahuri, 15 minutes north of Palmerston North, during the peak production season for the European market.

About the Role

We are recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join one of our Artificial Breeding Operational laboratories. This is a 5‑month fixed‑term position, from January 2026 through to approximately the end of May 2026. No prior experience is required – full training will be provided. The role reports to the European SCC and Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Processing and analysis of bovine semen under critical quality and health and safety guidelines.
  • Laboratory hygiene, data entry and stock control.
  • Working within European export protocols and EU export protocols.
  • Guaranteed a minimum of 40 hours per fortnight, 5 days a week starting at 6 : 30 am.

Qualifications

  • Excellent computer skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills.
  • Neat and tidy handwriting.
  • Can‑do attitude.
  • Willingness to learn, be flexible and carry out a wide variety of tasks.
  • Experience of working within critical quality and health and safety guidelines and EU export protocols is essential.
  • A science background and / or laboratory experience is desirable but not essential.
