THE OPPORTUNITY : We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Mangere, Auckland.
This role has responsibility for ensuring the electrical and controls functions of our equipment and projects meet all relevant standards and established commercial criteria.
This includes knowledge of and implementation of the appropriate standards for the destination geography, meeting project cost budgets and project timelines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : Design electrical and control circuits, ensuring safe and compliant design practices.
Develop and implement machine control software, including PLC, HMI, servo, SCADA, and robot code, in collaboration with the Project Manager and Mechanical Design Engineers.
Configure, test, and debug code, communication networks, drive systems (servo / VSD / soft starters), safety systems, and other devices at Scott sites or customer locations as required.
Maintain thorough documentation of control system designs, programming code, configurations, and updates for future reference.
Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate control systems into larger projects and ensure seamless operation.
Ensure all control systems comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE : Robot / Cobot programming experience (advantageous).
Strong understanding of networking concepts (Layer 2 / Layer 3, NAT, VPN solutions).
Proficiency in object-oriented programming (Python, C#, C++, Java, or similar).
Working knowledge of databases, including writing SQL queries.
Familiarity with industrial protocols (EtherNet / IP, MQTT, TCP / IP).
Experience with servo motion control (preferred).
Understanding of mechanical design principles.
Experience with SCADA systems.
Exposure to, or willingness to learn, web development-oriented programming.
TO BE A GREAT MATCH FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED A degree or diploma in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.
3+ years relevant industrial automation experience.
Excellent communication skills and proven ability in following client specifications and proven internal design practices.
Strong analytical skills to determine alternative pathways for mitigating risk, reducing cost or creating float in project schedules.
A high level of computer literacy particularly in electrical design packages.
High attention to detail.
