Post-Doctoral Fellow – New Zealand Institute of Language Brain and Behaviour

Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE). Fixed‑term position for 2 years and 5 months. Salary : $86,612.

Location : Ōtautahi, Christchurch, Aotearoa, New Zealand

What You Will Do

Join the team working on a Marsden Fund project titled “Ngā Rōpū Kupu o Te Reo Māori / The Word Categories of Te Reo Māori”, investigating parts of speech in te reo Māori.

Responsibilities include gathering and analysing phonetic, psycholinguistic, and morpho‑syntactic evidence to understand how Māori speakers categorise words into lexical categories.

Who You Are

  • PhD in Linguistics with expertise in phonology, morphology, psycholinguistics, lexical representation, or Te re o Māori and its tikanga.
  • Background in Māori or Polynesian linguistic research, and demonstrated skills in statistical analysis and experimental design (preferred).
  • Candidate with relevant research experience is encouraged to apply.

What You Will Work With

Collaborate with Dr Forrest Panther, Professor Jen Hay, Dr Heeju Hwang, and Dr Gianna Leoni. Interdisciplinary environment across linguistics, speech production and perception, language acquisition, disorders, cognition, bilingual education, and interface technologies.
