ABOUT THE ROLE

The Professional Conduct Team investigates and prosecutes complaints about New Zealand members of CA ANZ under the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants Act 1996. It also manages the statutory disciplinary processes for Licensed Insolvency Practitioners and Licensed Auditors in New Zealand, as a front-line regulator.

As a Professional Conduct Lawyer, you will investigate and manage a portfolio of cases about CA ANZ members and others subject to our jurisdiction. In this role, you’ll contribute your legal skills by assisting with the preparation of legal documents, providing practical advice, and supporting the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) in upholding the highest standards of ethics and professional behavior.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the investigation and processing of complaints and potential complaints allocated to you under a case management system, including corresponding with parties, and liaising with witnesses as needed.
  • Preparing case summaries, agenda papers, and legal documents for PCC meetings and disciplinary hearings.
  • Providing advice and information to stakeholders, including members, complainants, and the disciplinary bodies.
  • Supporting the preparation of cases to the PCC, Disciplinary Tribunal, and Appeals Council.
  • Assisting with broader regulatory monitoring and project work as required.
  • ABOUT YOU

    You are a Legal Professional offering 3+ years post-qualification experience. You bring :

  • Experience in litigation, regulation, and / or investigations.
  • Skills in drafting complex legal documents and correspondence.
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload with attention to detail and efficiency.
  • A collaborative, positive attitude and a desire to continuously learn and improve.
  • Strong judgement, discretion and a professional approach.
  • The ability to communicate with influence and empathy with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts or the industry (advantageous but not essential).
  • The ability to be admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court with a current practicing certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
