A great opportunity for Registered Nurses with mental health experience who enjoy working in a challenging new environment

Do you want a new direction in mental health nursing that is not in a hospital or the community?

Forensic Prison Team could be the right role for you.

About Us

The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand.

We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons.

We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services that connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture-specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services.

This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.

About the role

Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services is currently recruiting Registered Nurses to join our Forensic Prison Team.

We work in the Northern Regional Corrections Facilities (Auckland / Northland).

It's interesting, every day is different, and you interact with Custody staff, prison Health staff, Police and lawyers on a daily basis who do value your expertise

As a key member of the team, you will work within prison environments, providing assessments and follow-up care for prisoners with significant mental health needs.

This role involves mental health triage, managing a caseload, and offering expert advice to prison and healthcare staff.

It is a dynamic and rewarding alternative to traditional mental health nursing, requiring flexibility and strong clinical judgment.

Youll be part of a small, supportive team based at the Mason Clinic (Te Aka Building, 1st floor), covering prison sites across Auckland and Northland.

Your primary base will be an Auckland prison.

There is also the opportunity to train and be appointed as a Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) under the Mental Health Act after gaining experience in the role.

This position includes an additional allowance of $2,700+ per annum
