Job description

If you would like to awhi your community, CAB could be a great place for you to volunteer. As a CAB volunteer, you will have the chance to make a difference in people’s lives through your mahi aroha (voluntary work).

Working with us, you would get to be part of an organisation that not only empowers individuals and whānau through our service of advice and information, but that also empowers communities by advocating for fairer laws and policies based on what we learn from our clients.

So, if you love helping people and your wider community, volunteering with the CAB could be the place for you. CAB volunteers receive great training, gain valuable learning and experience through helping clients, and get to work alongside a diverse group of dedicated volunteers, making a positive impact together.

Requirements :

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working as part of a team and have a welcoming, respectful approach to all people. You must be able to :

  • Relate well with a diverse range of people
  • Listen effectively and demonstrate good oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate confidence and competence using a computer to research and record information
  • Work within CAB aims, values, principles, and policies
  • Learn about and participate in the CAB’s commitment to effectiveness for Māori (Mauri Manaia)
  • Give and receive feedback effectively, accepting guidance and assistance

In addition, volunteers should :

  • Participate in regular learning and development to keep skills and knowledge current.
  • Contribute to the Bureau’s operations by :

  • Joining a bureau team (e.g. information, learning and development, publicity).
  • Being willing to serve on the Management Board.
  • Attending On-going Learning Sessions (OGT) and the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Assisting with Awareness Week, fundraising, publicity events, and other bureau-organised activities.
  • A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

    Time commitment :

  • One rostered duty of 4 hours each week.
