Together we have co-designed a kindergarten that reflects and celebrates the identity, home language and culture of the local Tongan community. Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten has engaging learning environments and programmes for fanaú (children) that reflect their community and identity. Fanaú are given the opportunity to explore and learn at their own pace in a safe and caring environment. We value the individual strengths, interests and uniqueness of all fanaú. Our Kau Faiako (teaching team) act as positive role models and we value partnerships with famili / whanau which creates a sense of belonging for all. The name Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten reflects the partnership and the aspirations for fanaú who attend. Fonua is about the connection of people, land and beginnings. Fonua is also the Tongan word for placenta. The community see this partnership as the forming of a new fonua for the next generation. Manongi and 'Alaha reflect the essence of connected quality experiences that the community aspires to for every child, establishing a foundation for lifelong learning, and a strong identity. At Fonua 'Alaha Monongi Kindergarten our philosophy is centred on the importance of open space learning. Our fanaú learn through play, embrace our Tongan language and history, and celebrate the Tongan culture and identity. We have a team of qualified ECE teachers from the Tongan community, passionate about the education of our fanaú. Some of the team have taught here and in Tonga and have a deep understanding of Anga Fakatonga (the Tongan way) in supporting children's learning. We are open weekdays from 8.30am to 3.30pm and are the only AKA kindergarten that is open all year, responding to the needs of our community. Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten is currently looking for a permanent, full time Head Teacher to join and lead our teaching team and help us contribute to the high level of service that we are proud to provide our local community. If you have an appreciation and a deep understanding of the Tongan culture and are willing and open to learning and teaching in Tongan and are a registered and fully certificated ECE Teacher, and experienced ECE Head Teacher with proven leadership experience, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the AKA and to celebrate our community! We are looking for an experienced Head Teacher who really enjoys being a great example to your team as an exceptional leader. Through your open communication style, collaborative approach and focus on strengthening relationships; you will value the past whilst bringing to life a vision for the future that is shared by the team, kindergarten whanau and local community are on the journey together; and ensures that all key stakeholders are on the journey together. Balancing professional leadership with management of the day-to-day kindergarten operations and teaching duties means variety and intrinsic reward. You need to be energetic and enthusiastic about providing excellent learning experiences to our tamariki, driven by our play-based philosophy and focus on dispositional learning; and have the resilience to meet the compliance and operational targets that the management component of the role requires.
