We are seeking a compassionate and qualified guidance counsellor to provide professional counselling and pastoral care for akonga, with a focus on supporting chronic absence and re-engagement.
This position offers a meaningful opportunity to enhance akonga wellbeing, strengthen connections, and empower rangatahi to thrive in their learning.
Key responsibilities
Provide confidential counselling and wellbeing support for akonga.
Monitor and respond to chronic absence, developing re-engagement strategies.
Collaborate with whanau, kaiako, kura leadership, iwi, and agencies for wraparound support.
Contribute to kura-wide pastoral care, attendance, and wellbeing initiatives.
About you
Recognised counselling qualification and NZAC membership (or eligibility).
Deep understanding of Te Aho Matua and kaupapa Maori education.
Strong relationship, confidentiality, and cultural safety skills.
Desirable : Proficiency in te reo Maori, experience in kura kaupapa Maori, and knowledge of attendance and engagement strategies.
