About us
PaySauce has been cooking up awesome payroll since 2015. What started as a bold idea has grown into a platform delivering the best payroll solutions for small businesses. With our clever platform and sharp eye for security, compliance and ease of use, we make it easy for employers to manage the human side of business - from digital timesheets and rostering, through to calculating payroll, banking the payments and filing to tax authorities.
We’ve established a strong foundation in New Zealand, becoming a trusted payroll provider for small businesses. Now we’re taking our expertise trans‑Tasman, building solutions for Australian micro‑businesses where no single end‑to‑end payroll solutions exist for managing payroll and employees.
We love payroll and people, and we’re revolutionising the way they are looked after : we really care about helping both employers and employees by making the tough things simple and letting them focus on the things that matter. Our goal? Effortless yet flexible. Clever solutions that are intuitive to use and make payroll a beautiful experience.
About the role
We’re looking for a Test Engineer to join us and take ownership of quality assurance at PaySauce. You’ll be responsible for advancing our approach to testing through automation, ensuring our product meets the high standards our customers expect.
You’ll work closely with our CTO, Product team, and Developers to shape the testing strategy across the product development lifecycle. You’ll be developing comprehensive test plans and building automated test suites. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll write code, analyse requirements, and think critically about how our systems behave.
Your work will directly impact our operational efficiency and customer satisfaction scores as you catch issues early and maintain quality standards. You’ll have the opportunity to establish testing frameworks, implement continuous integration practices, and drive improvements to how we approach quality across PaySauce.
About the team
You’ll report directly to our CTO and work closely with our Product and Development teams. You’ll be involved in our development workflows, participating in refinement sessions, contributing to feature planning, and representing the quality perspective in product discussions. You’ll also work alongside our Support team to understand customer pain points and translate that feedback into better testing approaches.
About you
You’re analytical by nature, looking at requirements and immediately thinking about edge cases, potential issues, and how systems might behave in different scenarios. You understand how testing fits into agile development workflows and the broader software development lifecycle.
With your strong attention to detail, you spot the things that others miss! Knowing how to balance automated and manual testing approaches, you can assess what makes sense to automate based on ROI and feasibility. You are comfortable working in ambiguity and can adapt your approach as situations change.
You’ll bring strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. You’re tech‑savvy and excited about adopting new tools and innovations that improve how we work. You’re committed to continuous improvement, both in terms of our testing processes and your own professional development. While knowledge of New Zealand or Australian payroll would be beneficial, it’s not essential – we can help you build your understanding as you go.
Why you’ll love working at PaySauce
Life is good here with the PayForce. We take care of each other as much as we do our customers : we’re built on being empathetic, kind, and people‑first.
We’re committed to supporting your development and ensuring you feel fulfilled and happy at work. We’re dedicated to ensuring everyone feels valued and has a contribution to make to PaySauce’s (very bright) future.
You’ll get health insurance, birthday leave, extra leave if you’re becoming a parent, and an invitation to join our employee share scheme. You can ditch the formal office wear - we’re pretty laid back, and the office is fun, friendly and close to shops and cafes. Most importantly, you’ll have an awesome, supportive crew around you in a company that’s really going places.
