Mayoral Communications Adviser

Here at Whangārei District Council our continually developing culture is built around principles of delivering for our customers, our tikanga, and working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for our community.

To support us in our efforts we are looking for a Mayoral Communications Adviser who will provide wholesale communications support to the Mayoral Office. As the successful candidate you'll be responsible for delivering high quality communications and engagement for the Mayor across a wide range of channels. To do this successfully you'll need to develop an effective understanding of all of Council's audience segments and how to reach them. You'll also need to be adept at organising and running networking events and collaboration opportunities on behalf of the Mayor aimed at developing a greater understanding of community issues and priorities and providing an effective, timely response.

Working from our centrally located, state of the art, civic facility our ideal candidate will need to demonstrate the following :

• A tertiary qualification in communications, marketing or social sciences.
• Knowledge (or ability to develop knowledge) of LGOIMA, Local Government Act and other relevant legislation.
• Ability to effectively liaise between the Mayoral Office, the community and media.
• A good understanding of Council's target audiences throughout the community and how to use a variety of communications channels to communicate effectively.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Ability to influence others through development of strong working relationships and provision of clear well thought out advice.
• Highly adept in the use of communication channels to drive results.
