The Role
Reports to :
The driver reports to the leading hand / supervisor (Supervisor) for instructions daily re-work to be performed. Ultimately the driver must follow instructions & accept advice regarding runs from the Supervisor as that person might have received special instructions from head office.
Hours :
8.00am – 4.30pm (8 hours), an unpaid half an hour is reserved for lunch & 2 x 10-minute paid tea breaks during the day – one in the morning & the other in the afternoon. The hours may be varied after consultation with head office management.
Duties of the Driver
Health & Safety :
Part of this maintenance is to ensure that the vehicle is kept in a clean & effective state.
The driver will wear appropriate fluoro clothing & safety boots during deliveries. The driver will dress appropriately for a person delivering goods & representing our company.
The driver must unload & deliver goods in a safe manner that will not cause injury to himself or bystanders.
General :
It is not envisaged that the driver has a complete knowledge of products or the business. The company does not want the driver providing inaccurate information to customers. The driver is not to give specific advice regarding company policy, equipment, or on any area outside of that person's expertise. All but the most basic of enquiries should be passed onto head office or the Supervisor. Known information such as delivery times, the number of items in a carton & so forth should be communicated to customers if asked.
The driver will at all times behave in a respectful manner. This includes towards customers, other drivers on the road & all bystanders in the performance of his duties.
If the driver encounters a problem with a customer or bystander while performing duties then the Driver should contact the Supervisor for advice, who will in turn contact the Melbourne office for advice if considered appropriate.
Cleaning of trucks & warehouses will be completed on a rotational basis.
