About the Role
We're looking for a compassionate and confident Hauora Māori Worker to join our Emergency Department team. In this role, you'll support Māori tūroro (patients) and their whānau to feel safe, understood, and cared for during their time in ED. You'll help ensure that te ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles are embedded in the care we provide.As a Hauora Māori Worker, you'll :
Provide whānau-centred and culturally safe support for Māori patients in the Emergency Department.
Advocate for Māori health needs and help whānau navigate the hospital system.
Uphold tikanga Māori and offer cultural guidance to ED staff.
Strengthen relationships between whānau, clinicians, and Māori Health Services.
Contribute to improving equity and health outcomes for Māori in emergency care.This is a fast-pacedenvironment where compassion, calmness, and strong communication skills areessential.
About You
Your skills will include :
A strong understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori.
Experience supporting tamariki and whānau Māori in health, education, or community settings.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
A calm, caring presence and ability to support whānau during times of stress.
A genuine commitment to improving hauora and equity for tamariki Māori.Relevant qualifications orexperience in Māori health, social services, community work, or child / familysupport are an advantage.However we want to see the real you in your application and welcome the real you on board if you come and work with us. Skills are gained across many areas of our life, not just in formal employment.
