About Us...

Panui Mai | Read to Me is a registered charitable trust. Our purpose is to inspire a passion for reading in tamariki, particularly primary age children through a reading support volunteer service for schools to support tamariki who need additional support with their reading.

After completing a third successful year partnering with 17 primary schools in Hastings, Napier and rural Hawke's Bay, we are excited about growing the programme further in

About the role...

A Reading Support Volunteer will support primary age children to develop a love for reading and improve their reading skills. This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact in your community. Key responsibilities will include -

• Support tamariki to develop a love of reading by providing one hour per week, which will involve working with two different students each on a one-on-one basis for 30 minutes each during school hours (total 1 hour per week committment)
• Create a safe and supportive learning environment for learners
• Encourage and promote a love for reading through various activities such as book discussions, storytelling, and book clubs
• Collaborate with the program coordinator and other volunteers to develop and implement effective reading programs
• Maintain accurate records of learners' progress and report to the program coordinator
• Attend program meetings and training sessions as required
