Job description

Pataka Art + Museum is the cultural heart of Porirua City.

The art gallery and museum showcases the best in Maori, Pacific, and contemporary New Zealand arts, and also features local and international artists.

The gallery is located in the recreational hub of the city, along side the City Centre Library, Te Rauparaha Arena, with Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour nearby.

About the role

You'll collaborate with curators, educators, artists, and our friendly front-of-house team to make sure every exhibition opening, community workshop and cultural celebration at Pataka runs smoothly — from planning through to pack-down.

You'll also be the key contact for venue hirers, ensuring every event hosted at Pataka — from performances to private functions — is well-organised, safe, and welcoming.

What you'll be doing

Working alongside the Curatorial and FOH teams to deliver inspiring public programmes and exhibition openings

Coordinating bookings and events for internal and external venue hirers

Building relationships with local artists, community groups and cultural organisations

Helping promote Pataka's programmes through social media and online channels

Supporting the logistics of events — from technical setup to health and safety

Keeping our spaces looking great and ensuring every visitor has a positive experience

All about you

You'll be someone who loves bringing people together, thrives on variety, and can juggle multiple projects with a smile.

You'll need to show us that you have :

Experience in delivering public programming and / or event management

Skills in event coordination and public programmes, ideally in an art gallery and museum context

Accurate and efficient administration skills

Experience working with budgets

Enthusiasm, initiative and great communication skills, and a genuine passion for art, culture and community engagement

What you need to do now
