This is a 6-month fixed term, 15 hours per week opportunity, which is supported by external funding.

About the Role

Are you passionate about building strong, connected communities and supporting older people to thrive? We’re looking for a Resilient Communities Coordinator to lead engagement and resilience initiatives across the South Wairarapa District. In this role, you’ll work closely with Community Development and Emergency Management teams, tangata whenua, and key stakeholders to strengthen community preparedness and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver community engagement sessions with older people and groups.
  • Partner with tangata whenua, hapū, and marae to deliver programmes that reflect their priorities.
  • Promote emergency resilience and enable older people to share needs and experiences.
  • Track project milestones, manage funding, and report progress to stakeholders.
  • Establish strong relationships with partners such as Wellington Free Ambulance, St John’s, and WREMO.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ experience in an engagement or communications role, preferably within local or central government.
  • Strong facilitation, engagement, and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working with community groups; knowledge of older persons and community sector is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Knowledge of emergency management is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings / weekends).
  • Full driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
