About the Role
We now have an opportunity for a Category Manager – Direct Procurement (Dry Goods & Packaging) to lead the sourcing and optimisation of packaging materials and dry goods essential to wine production and co-packing operations.
You’ll combine strategic procurement with technical packaging expertise to deliver cost-effective, sustainable solutions that meet operational and product development needs.
Working closely with Project Managers and Product Specialists, you’ll ensure all packaging requirements are met across New Product Development (NPD), Existing Product Development (EPD), and vintage rollovers. You’ll play a key role in resolving technical challenges, driving innovation, and aligning procurement activities with Vinarchy’s broader supply chain strategy.
This is a full time, permanent position based in Auckland , offering hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead procurement for dry goods and packaging categories including glass, closures, cartons, labels, and ancillary materials.
- Apply packaging technology expertise to resolve technical challenges and ensure quality, performance, and compliance.
- Support NPD and EPD projects by sourcing materials and engaging suppliers to meet project timelines and specifications.
- Manage co-packing and delivery solutions, ensuring packaging availability and performance at external sites.
- Negotiate supplier contracts and terms to optimise cost, supply assurance, and flexibility.
- Identify and implement value engineering, packaging simplification, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Supply Chain, Winemaking, Technical, and Commercial teams.
- Monitor supplier performance, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with ESG and responsible sourcing standards.

5+ years’ experience in procurement, category management, or packaging-focused commercial roles, preferably within FMCG or wine / beverage industries.Strong knowledge of packaging technology and its application in wine and / or co-packed goods.Experience negotiating contracts, managing suppliers, and running RFX / tender processes.Analytical skills with the ability to interpret spend, forecast requirements, and make data-driven recommendations.Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.Strong collaboration skills to work cross-functionally across regions and teams.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP / procurement systems.Self-motivated, proactive, and growth-oriented mindset.Current driver’s licence.Why Join Us?
