• About the Role – Kōrero mō te Tūranga
• We're looking for a data-savvy Policy Analyst to join our Data Insights team within the Strategy Insights & Evidence directorate of Policy & Trade. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives on using data and evidence to shape policy that supports New Zealand's primary industries.As a Policy Analyst, you will :
• Analyse economic, trade, market, consumer and business performance data to inform policy development
• Identify trends and emerging issues using market, consumer, and sector performance data as well as stakeholder insights
• Develop evidence-based, cost-effective policy options for government action
• Support the development of legislative and regulatory instruments
• Collaborate across MPI, with other agencies and with stakeholders to deliver cross-government policy initiatives.

• You'll bring strong analytical skills and a passion for using data to drive better policy outcomes. You'll be comfortable working with complex information and translating it into clear, actionable advice.We're especially interested in candidates who have :
• 2–5 years of experience in policy analysis or a similar field
• A tertiary qualification in economics, commerce / business, statistics, data science, business analytics or a related discipline
• Experience working with data to inform policy decisions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A collaborative mindset and ability to work across teams and sectors
• Familiarity with government processes and regulatory systems.
