Resident Doctor - General Medicine - Tauranga

Head Medical is delighted to be recruiting post-foundation doctors possessing a minimum 12 months experience within General Medicine for positions at Tauranga Hospital, located in the heart of the stunning Bay of Plenty. The Role

There are two hospitals in the region, Whakatānehospital has 110 beds, and Tauranga Hospital with 359 beds. The Medical Service provides specialist services across the Bay of Plenty district, which incorporates two hospital sites in Tauranga and Whakatāne (1 hour drive down the coast), delivering general internal medicine inpatient and outpatient services, plus a range of subspeciality services, to a population of approx. 260,000.

This role will be based at Tauranga Hospital (359 bed, Level 2 Hospital) and will include elective work. Tauranga Hospital runs a busy acute general medical service with support from resident specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatrics, Oncology, Haematology and Renal services. There are also a number of educational opportunities available including journal clubs and ward rounds.

There is a focus on Māori health and a strong commitment to closing the gaps and reducing health inequalities by re‑designing pathways with Māori (who make up 25.6% of the region’s population), to promote better access to healthcare services.

The Location

Tauranga is now the 5th largest city in New Zealand with an urban population of 151,300 (regionally 255,102) and is only a 2.5 hour drive south of Auckland. It has always been a premier destination, but with the strong NZ economy and a buoyant housing market, Tauranga is now the fastest growing city in New Zealand.

Tauranga, and in particular the suburb of Mount Maunganui, is well known for many things – the mountain (Mauao), the sunshine, the café and restaurant scene, the surfing, the white sandy beaches and natural salt water hotpools, the local markets with fresh produce, the safe and family‑friendly lifestyle with excellent schools, and high‑end real estate.

There is a domestic airport with regular daily flights to Auckland's International airport (35 minutes), making connections to / from Tauranga very easy.
