Start your career in Mercury as a Graduate Reservoir Engineer and be part of a team driving the sustainable use of geothermal energy—one of New Zealand’s most valuable natural resources. In this role, you’ll contribute to the performance and longevity of our geothermal reservoirs, helping deliver firm, affordable, and low‑carbon electricity to the national grid.

As the electricity sector faces growing demand for renewable capacity and resilience, your work will support Mercury’s mission to provide reliable energy while protecting the environment. You’ll be guided by experienced engineers and immersed in real-world geothermal operations, gaining hands‑on experience in reservoir modelling, field surveillance, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Tāu e mahi ai | What you'll be doing :

  • Explore and analyse geothermal reservoir data to understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support field activities , including downhole logging and reservoir surveillance.
  • Collaborate across disciplines , working with geoscientists, drilling engineers, site teams, and optimisation engineers to integrate subsurface data.
  • Contribute to planning , helping shape field development strategies and reservoir management plans.
  • Build and refine models , assisting in the development of geothermal reservoir simulations.
  • Communicate insights , sharing well performance updates with site teams to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Grow your skills , participating in structured learning and development tailored to geothermal engineering.
  • Work with purpose , contributing to technical reports and compliance documentation that support sustainable resource use.

We’re looking for someone who is :

  • Curious and committed – you ask questions, seek out new knowledge, and want to understand how things work.
  • Collaborative – you enjoy working with others and value diverse perspectives.
  • Detail‑oriented – you care about data quality and take pride in doing things right.
  • Adaptable – you’re open to feedback, learning, and evolving your approach.
  • Technically capable – you have a solid foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, and are keen to apply these in a geothermal context.
  • A recent graduate – with a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum) or Earth Sciences with a strong quantitative focus.
  • Ready to grow – you’re looking for a role where you’ll be supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to make a real impact.
  • Legal entitlement to work full‑time in New Zealand
  • Additional 5 days leave per annum (MyDays).
