The Lead TMP Designer & Risk Assessor is responsible for developing safe, compliant, and efficient Traffic Management Plans that support Men at Work’s operations.
This role applies a risk-based approach to all TMP design and assessment activities, ensuring each site setup meets the requirements of the NZGTTM , CoPTTM , client specifications, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 .
You’ll work closely with our planners, operations teams, and field crews to ensure that every plan is practical, achievable, and aligned with Men at Work’s safety expectations.
You’ll act as 2IC to the Planning team manager , and assist with scheduling, allocation, training of Junior Designers .

Key Responsibilities
- Design, review, and update Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) for a wide range of civil and maintenance projects.
- Carry out risk assessments for proposed sites and apply appropriate controls using the hierarchy of controls and Men at Work’s risk-based TTM methodology .
- Identify and document network hazards, risk modifiers, and control measures to ensure safety for all road users.
- Collaborate with clients, RCAs, and internal teams to gain TMP approvals and manage changes efficiently.
- Provide technical support and advice to field teams to ensure accurate implementation of approved TMPs.
- Conduct site audits and reviews to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives within the TTM and HSEQ systems.
- Stay current with changes to NZGTTM , RCA requirements, and industry best practice.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in traffic management design (2 years minimum)Strong understanding of NZGTTM / CoPTTM principles.Skilled in RapidPlan , or equivalent TMP design software.Excellent communication and documentation skills.Ability to assess and control risks effectively in dynamic work environments.Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.Qualifications
TTM Planner / Designer Qualification (preferred).STMS CAT A / B or Unit standard 31963Health and Safety / Risk Management qualification desirable.Full New Zealand driver’s licence.Personal Attributes
