At Oyster we are committed to Building a Brighter Future and it is this vision that sits at the core of everything we do. Job scope
This is an exciting opportunity to join Oyster as a Senior Legal Counsel, responsible for the legal and regulatory affairs of the Group, with oversight from the General Counsel & Company Secretary.
With principal focus areas across Commercial Property, Corporate and Commercial Law, the position will offer counsel on a wide variety of legal issues, along with drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a range of contracts and legal agreements that minimise risk and maximise commercial outcomes.
The role is key to preparing disclosure documents (e.g., PDS, IMs and related Investor Relations collateral); leading verification activities, managing end‑to‑end company secretarial administration and the day‑to‑day legal operations and workstreams.
With opportunities to lead and contribute to process improvement, technology adoption, and cross‑functional projects that enhance the efficiency of legal, compliance, and governance functions, the role will also work with other members of the Risk & Compliance team to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and act as an interface between the Company and external law firms.
Eligibility criteria
It is essential to be a New Zealand‑qualified lawyer (or re‑qualified) with – or eligible to hold – a practising certificate and approximately 7+ years PQE. Strong knowledge of New Zealand corporate, funds, property and commercial law is key, along with experience in regulatory compliance, governance, and company secretarial functions. Sound corporate legal experience will be valued, along with commercial acumen and the ability to interpret financial information. It would be a bonus if you had prior FMCA exposure.
This role would suit a motivated team player with an AI first mindset who understands the need to deliver both quality advice and legal administration, harnessing technology to do so.
At Oyster, we place strong emphasis on our core competencies, which are the foundation of our high‑performing environment. These include critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, effective communication, impactful collaboration, digital proficiency, and strong financial acumen. We actively seek these qualities in our people, as they are essential to driving our success and shaping a high‑performing, future‑ready team.
