Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kairuruku – Research Fellow Ice Sheet Modelling position to join Te Puna Patiotio – Antarctic Research Centre team on permanent, full‑time contract.
Key responsibilities
Undertake simulations using a high‑resolution ice sheet model.Continue experiments using the BISICLES ice sheet that explore evolution of the Antarctic Ice Sheet at catchment or whole‑continent scale under a range of climate states, e.g. from present‑day conditions up to warming levels likely within coming centuries.Assist with and / or lead Antarctic fieldwork, as required, for example the continued management and development of GNSS‑based ice shelf survey or other glaciological work incorporated into a range of externally‑funded research programmes.Assist in student supervision, tuition, and / or mentoring as appropriate.You will be a self‑motivated team player who can take the initiative, provide excellent research outcomes and mentorship.
Key requirements
A completed PhD in the physical sciences, with an emphasis on glaciology and ice sheet modelling.Demonstrated practical experience setting up and running high‑resolution ice sheet models such as BISICLES on high‑performance computer architectures (e.g. cluster, supercomputer).Demonstrated expertise in working with ESMs that incorporate interactive ice sheet components that allow effective two‑way exchange of evolutionary fields and physically realistic changes to ice‑ocean‑atmosphere boundary conditions.Proven skills in presenting results to a wide range of audiences, including peer‑reviewed publications.Role Description : Click here to see further information, including salary details.
